Corrective Jaw Surgery in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills Orthognathic Surgery or Corrective Jaw Surgery is a facial surgery that addresses issues of the upper and lower jaw. In some cases, the two different jaws can grow at different paces, resulting in misalignment that is both uncomfortable and unattractive. This can cause several issues that might affect your speech, ability to swallow and ability to chew properly. The misalignment can also affect the appearance of your face, jaw, and teeth, as the anatomy of the mouth may not receive the proper support overall.
Some individuals develop this problem over time since the upper and lower jaw can grow at different rates. Variations in growth and development can cause a shift in the teeth as well as the bite. An underbite (mandibular prognathism) or overbite (maxillary prognathism) can also be present and problematic. In addition to addressing these issues, corrective jaw surgery may offer a solution to breathing problems such as sleep apnea and snoring caused by the misaligned upper and lower jaw.
Prior to diagnosis, the Beverly Hills staff of Rodeo Surgical Art will schedule you for your consultation. ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY TREATMENT FOR BEVERLY HILLS AND LOS ANGELES AREA PATIENTS
Treatment for an uneven jaw or a jaw that is causing bite problems is very intricate and should only be performed by an experienced surgeon. The procedure may involve adding bone or extracting bone to augment or reduce the jawline. There are a variety of techniques that might be recommended to achieve the patient’s goals in terms of both form and function.
Before you undergo surgery, orthodontic braces may be needed move and align the teeth to dictate the new position of the jaw and the facial bones. Proper planning is the key to a successful outcome with any type of corrective jaw procedure. The preparation process may include special imaging, photos, dental models, and coordination with an orthodontist.
Surgical incisions are usually made inside the mouth to prevent visible scarring after surgery. In rare situations, small incisions may also be needed outside of the mouth. However, these are always placed with an inconspicuous nature to minimize signs of surgery afterward. The facial bones will be strategically manipulated to achieve proper alignment and appearance. In certain instances, bone may be added, taken away or reshaped. Surgical plates or screws, or resorbable types of fixations, are used to stabilize the new position of the facial bones. Additionally, wires and rubber bands may be utilized in conjunction with fixation during the healing process to ensure the best possible results.
BEVERLY HILLS ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY AFTER CARE AND RECOVERY
The aftercare instructions specific to your exact procedure will be provided by our knowledgeable team. Recommendations may include a modified diet at first, such as soft food or a liquid diet, followed by a scheduled transition to a normal diet. Dr. Mashhadian also advises patients to refrain from the use of tobacco products and to avoid strenuous activity during their recovery period.
Postoperative pain after corrective jaw surgery can be effectively managed with oral pain medication. Most patients can return to work or school within one to three weeks after surgery. Bone healing is a slow process and although initial healing time is approximately six weeks, complete recuperation may take between nine and 12 months. During this period, adjustments can be made to perfect your results.
