Otoplasty (Cosmetic Ear Surgery)

The ears may not be the first things you think of when envisioning an attractive and symmetrical face. However, when the ears are overly large and protruding they are one of the first things people notice.

Through the use of the artistic surgical hands of Dr. Mashhadian, the correction or overly large and unnaturally protruding ears can be done through a procedure called “Otoplasty” also commonly called “ear pinning”, “cosmetic ear surgery“, or “ear reshaping”. This condition can cause extreme insecurity and discomfort through adolescence and even into adulthood.

This is one of the very few cosmetic and corrective procedures that can be performed at early as 5-years-old. Luckily Dr. Mashhadian has perfected his technique for giving you the ears you feel you should have been born with. Otoplasty can correct any unnatural size, shape, and proportion to the face. Our Beverly Hills cosmetic ear surgeon Dr. Mashhadian can perform otoplasty on any patient over 5 years of age. Younger patients are not candidates for this procedure because the ear cartilage must be firm enough for surgery and correction.

Upon your consultation, Dr. Mashhadian will evaluate the symmetry, proportion, protrusion, and measurements of your face in relation to your ears as well as your ears’ individual measurements and proportions.

Your Beverly Hills Otoplasty Cosmetic Ear Surgery

Otoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. It is your preference. If you do plan on doing outpatient surgery under general anesthesia you will need to arrange for someone to drive you as well as pick you up from the surgery center.

Dr. Mashhadian has perfected the art and science of Ototplasy to treat various conditions such as prominent ears, undeveloped antithetical fold, prominent concha, and protruding earlobes.  Dr. Mashadian utilizes the most unique technique to administer local and tumescent anesthesia. He utilizes microcannula to prevent injuries to the delicate vessels in the area, making the procedure more comfortable for a patient having it done under local anesthesia alone. This also reduces post-operative discomfort, swelling bruising and even some complications.

Incisions for ear correction are generally made on the back of the ear. If there are necessary incisions to be made on the front portion of the ear they will be made within the folds and creases so they are not visible. The results of Otoplasty are instant and can be seen as soon as the dressing of the ear and incisions is removed.

Beverly Hills Otoplasty Complications

Hematoma is one of the most common complications after Otoplasty. This can cause excessive pain and needs to be treated urgently by evacuation. Infections are rare and need to be treated early and aggressively. Other specific related complications are suture related, such as suture extrusion and irritation, in these instances, sutures are removed. Overcorrection can also cause unnatural results.

A series of appointments for follow up care will be scheduled to monitor healing and to also remove stitches if necessary. With the help of Dr. Mashhadian, we are sure you will be pleased with the proportionate size and shape of your improved ears. Rodeo Surgical Art proudly serves patients from Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and surrounding California communities.
