STAYING CHEEKY: BENEFITS OF CHEEK IMPLANTS

If your cheeks are lacking the pizazz you are looking for, cheek implants may be an option for you. These synthetic implants fit inside the cheek to provide youthful volume and definition to the midface. Cheek implants are available at Rodeo Surgical Art and there are a number of reasons you should consider this facial contouring option. View More Patients Results ADDING BALANCE AND PROPORTION Implants do more than add size to a particular area of the face or body. They can also create balance and proportion that was lacking before. In some cases, implants might be used to create symmetry between the cheekbones or to balance a prominent chin. They can also restore volume to the midface that has been lost through the aging process. MULTIPLE SHAPES AND SIZES TO CHOOSE FROM Synthetic cheeks implants come in an assortment of shapes and sizes to fit every facial contour. This allows us to tailor your cheek implant procedure to your specific needs and desired results. The goal of the surgery is to create a natural and beautiful appearance with implants that are just right for you. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY Many of our patients decide to try out their new cheekbones before undergoing the surgical procedure. We can give them a fairly accurate idea of what their results might look like by applying dermal fillers to the area. These injectable treatments support the underlying dermal layers, adding volume and definition to the cheeks on a temporary basis. If patients like the results, they will often turn to implants next for a permanent solution. QUICK PROCEDURE, SHORT RECOVERY The placement of cheek implants is a relatively quick surgery that can be performed right in our office. Most procedures are done using local anesthesia and take less than one hour to complete. Patients are able to return home the same day as their surgery, but will likely experience some swelling and bruising for the first week or two. Most patients are back to regular activities within 7-10 days, although strenuous exercise will likely be restricted for a number of weeks. NO VISIBLE SCARRING AFTER SURGERY In most cases, cheek implants can be placed using incisions inside the mouth. When external incisions must be used, they are typically placed in the natural folds of the skin or in areas where visible scarring will not be noticeable. This is a huge plus to patients that would like to permanently transform their facial profile but don’t want to make it obvious they “had work done.” SYNTHETIC IMPLANTS OFFER PERMANENT RESULTS While injectable treatments can offer similar results to cheek implants, the results of those procedures are only temporary. That means you will have to repeat your procedure on a regular basis to maintain your results. Cheek implants are considered a permanent modification of the facial profile. However, if you ever decide you do not want your implants any longer, they can be removed. If you like them, you will never have to have another procedure to keep your results intact.

IS THIS THE RIGHT TIME FOR YOUR TUMMY TUCK?

You have tried diet and exercise, but despite your best efforts, that pooch around your midsection remains. Is it time to think about a tummy tuck? This surgical procedure can effectively trim down the abdominal area when weight loss efforts alone do not seem to do the trick. However, before you schedule that procedure, there are a few questions you need to consider to ensure now is the best time for your surgery. View More Patients Results ARE YOU PLANNING TO HAVE MORE CHILDREN? Most women decide to move forward with a tummy tuck when they are finished having children. In fact, the toll pregnancy takes on the body is often what leads to the need for plastic surgery in the first place. A tummy tuck is a good way to address muscle laxity and loose skin after one or more pregnancies. However, if you get pregnant after your tummy tuck, you could counter the positive effects of your surgery. HAVE YOU RECENTLY LOST WEIGHT? Another popular time to consider a tummy tuck is after significant weight loss. The process of dropping pounds can leave you with loose skin that failed to conform to your new, leaner body contour. You may also have a few stubborn pockets of fat around the midsection that did not respond to your weight loss efforts. However, if you are planning to lose more weight in the future, it is probably best to postpone your surgical procedure until you have achieved a stable weight. ARE YOU IN GOOD HEALTH? A tummy tuck is a relatively major surgery that is performed under general anesthesia. The incision for the tummy tuck is typically quite long, extending from hipbone to hipbone. If you have any medical conditions or lifestyle choices that would interfere with the safety of the surgery or the recovery process, now may not be the right time for your tummy tuck. This is particularly true of smokers – you will likely be asked to kick the habit for at least six weeks before and six weeks after your procedure. ARE YOU PREPARED TO TAKE SUFFICIENT TIME OFF FOR RECOVERY? Recovery from a tummy tuck generally takes a number of weeks. Most patients are ready to return to jobs and light activities within 2-3 weeks. However, more strenuous activity may be restricted for much longer. It is very important that you are able to take the full amount of recovery time recommended by your surgeon to ensure your body heals completely and you see the best possible results from your procedure. DO YOU HAVE A RELATIVELY HEALTHY LIFESTYLE? A tummy tuck is considered a permanent way to slim down the midsection – as long as a healthy weight is maintained after surgery. However, if you pack on more pounds after your procedure, it could interfere with your results. Your plastic surgeon will likely have recommendations for diet and exercise that will help you keep your weight and your results stable after your surgery. It is important to follow those guidelines to get the longest-lasting results from your tummy tuck.

WHAT ARE GUMMY BEAR IMPLANTS?

Breast augmentation is a procedure with many different options that allow you to tailor your surgery to your very specific needs, body shape and desired results. One of the choices you will need to make before your procedure is the type of implants you would like to use. While saline and silicone are both good options, the newer “gummy bear” implants offer a third choice to women looking for the most beautiful and natural results. HIGHLY COHESIVE GEL IMPLANTS The term “gummy bear,” which was coined by a plastic surgeon, actually refers to a newer type of highly cohesive gel implants. They got their nickname because the silicone gel inside of them tends to hold its shape better if it is cut, similar to a gummy bear candy. This can be an attractive feature for women that are concerned about implant ruptures. While this implant can still rupture like the others, it tends to be stronger, less prone to rupturing and will not leak if a rupture does occur. SHAPES, SIZES AND PROFILES The gummy bear implants, like other silicone implants, come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and profiles. While the implants are all anatomically shaped, some of the shapes tend to be rounder and others tend to be more of a teardrop shape. This allows the implants to be customized to the specific body shape and desired result of each patient. The size of the implant refers to its fullness. Implants are measured in cubic centimeters or cc’s of fluid, with gummy bear sizes ranging from 125cc to 670cc. Because gummy bear implants shape the breast rather than the other way around, the right size is especially important for these implants. The profile of the implant is how far the implant will project from the chest, and is typically based on the woman’s body size, shape and preferred results. BENEFITS OF GUMMY BEAR IMPLANTS Gummy bear implants offer a few benefits over other types of breast implants: Less risk of capsular contracture Lower risk for rippling Less likely to rupture and leak More likely to remain in position Tends to look and feel more like natural breast tissue While there are a number of benefits of gummy bear implants, they are not necessarily right for everyone. It should be noted that the incision for this type of implant usually needs to go in the breast crease underneath the breast. The surgery can also take a bit longer, since care needs to be taken to ensure the anatomically-shaped implants are properly placed in the breast tissue. Recovery time is typically no different with gummy bear implants than with other types of implants. MAKING THE CHOICE Choosing the right breast implant is a highly personal decision that should be made between you and your plastic surgeon. Dr. Mashhadian will discuss your options with you, highlighting the pros and cons of each to ensure you get the best implants for your specific needs. Even more important than your choice of implant is choosing an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Mashhadian to perform your breast augmentation procedure to ensure the safest and most beautiful results.

WHAT IS THE COST OF BREAST IMPLANTS?

If you are considering cosmetic breast augmentation, one of your biggest concerns will likely be the cost of the procedure. This surgery is not covered by insurance providers, so the entire expense will be paid out of your own pocket. For this reason, it is important to understand the factors that affect the cost of breast implants so that you can prepare properly for the expense of your procedure. COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH BREAST AUGMENTATION Breast implants are just one of the costs associated with the breast augmentation procedure. Other expenses might include fees for: Surgeon Anesthesiologist Facility Post-Operative Garments Medical Testing Prescription Medications When you discuss cost with your plastic surgeon, make sure all of these expenses are taken into account in the price you are quoted. Otherwise, you may be in for a surprise after your procedure when you receive additional bills for some of these items that you were not expecting. FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE COST OF YOUR PROCEDURE The cost of breast augmentation varies based on a number of different factors: The geographical location of the surgeon The experience of the surgeon The venue where the surgery will be performed The type of implants used Geography does indeed play a role in the cost of any plastic surgery procedure. For example, physicians located on either coast tend to have higher fees than surgeons located in other areas of the country. In addition, physicians in large cities often charge more than physicians located in more rural areas. The place where the surgery will be performed can also impact cost. Hospitals tend to charge more for use of their facility than an outpatient surgical center will. Many plastic surgeon’s also offer their own private surgical suite, which will likely be incorporated into the entire cost of the procedure. More experienced surgeons also tend to charge more for their services. However, this is not an area where you want to try to save your cash. Experience generally also means a safer procedure and better results, which adds significant value to your breast implant investment overall. SALINE VS. SILICONE IMPLANT COST The type of implant you choose will also affect how much you spend on your breast augmentation procedure. As a general rule, saline implants cost less than silicone. The most expensive implants today are the cohesive gel implants, known as “gummy bear” implants. These tend to come with an even higher price tag than standard silicone implants. While your choice of implant can save you a bit of money on your breast augmentation procedure, keep in mind that you are likely to have these implants for many years – maybe even a lifetime. Saving a bit now may not provide you the best value overall if you do not end up with the implants that work best for your specific procedure. Your plastic surgeon will be able to help you make the best implant choice for you. MAKING SURGERY AFFORDABLE Since cosmetic breast augmentation is not covered by insurance, plastic surgeons offering this service will usually provide payment options to make the surgery more affordable. In addition to taking a variety of payment types, many provide financing options to their patients. Be sure to ask about all the payment options available at your initial consultation.

WHEN YOUR RHINOPLASTY GOES BAD

You went into your nose surgery with high hopes about what you would look like after your procedure. Unfortunately, the results you saw after healing took place were not at all what you expected. When rhinoplasty goes bad, revision rhinoplasty may be the best way to reclaim your initial aesthetic goals. However, before you move forward with revision surgery, there are a few basic facts you need to know. View More Patients Results REASONS FOR REVISION RHINOPLASTY There are a number of reasons why you might be considering revision rhinoplasty: Original surgery resulted in asymmetries or depressions The final look of the nostrils was not satisfactory Original concerns were not adequately addressed The nasal tip is too narrow or droops downward The nose did not heal properly after the first procedure Patients may also find they cannot breathe as easier after their nose surgery, either due to unexpected scarring or poor healing. All of these issues can usually be addressed during revision rhinoplasty, as long as you choose a plastic surgeon that is highly skilled and experienced in this procedure. It is typically recommended to wait a minimum of 12 months after the initial procedure before pursuing revision rhinoplasty. This is because it can take that long for swelling to completely subside and the nose to heal. You will not likely see your full results until the first year has passed and at that point, you can determine whether a revision procedure may be necessary. POTENTIAL CONCERNS AND COMPLICATIONS Revision rhinoplasty can be more complex than the original surgery, since there are factors involved that may not have been present prior to the initial procedure. For example, scar tissue may have formed after the first surgery that must be addressed during revision rhinoplasty. It is also possible that there is not sufficient cartilage and tissue left to make the necessary corrections. This can be remedied by using grafts from another area of the body, but should only be attempted by an experienced plastic surgeon to ensure the best possible outcome. SELECTING A SURGEON Because revision rhinoplasty can be a more complex procedure, it is important to select the plastic surgeon for your surgery very carefully. In addition to choosing a surgeon that is board certified, find out how many revision procedures the surgeon performs each month. Look at plenty of before and after photos of previous patients that had a variety of concerns after their first rhinoplasty. Choose a physician that is willing to sit down and talk with you about your concerns and fully understand your aesthetic goals for your revision procedure. MAKING THE CHOICE Making the choice to move ahead with revision rhinoplasty is often one of the best decisions you can make. If you are unhappy with the results of your first procedure, it can impact your self-confidence in nearly every area of your life. If your original rhinoplasty left you with breathing difficulties, the decision to have a revision procedure can be as good for your health as it is for your appearance.

NEED A LIFT? BENEFITS OF MASTOPEXY

Patients considering breast enhancement often turn to augmentation to achieve their aesthetic goals. However, implants are not the only way to improve those curves. For some women, a breast lift, also known as mastopexy, may offer more desirable results when performed with augmentation or alone. Dr. Mashhadian at Rodeo Surgical Art has a few benefits of a breast lift to consider when you are thinking about a breast enhancement procedure. View More Patients Results WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT? Breasts can change over time, often due to breastfeeding or the simple aging process. A breast lift is a surgical procedure that restores the position of drooping breasts to a higher position on the chest. This surgery can give you a more youthful body contour and possibly add subtle fullness to sagging breasts. During a breast lift, Dr. Mashhadian removes excess skin and tissue from the breasts before placing them in their new position. In many cases, the nipples and areolas are also relocated to a more natural position on the breast. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes 3-5 hours to complete. Patients typically go home the same day as their procedure. BEST CANDIDATES The best candidates for a breast lift are women that have experienced moderate to severe ptosis (sagging) in the breast tissue. You can determine whether you have sufficient ptosis to warrant a breast lift by checking the position of the nipple first. If the nipple and areola are below the breast crease, you are likely a good candidate for a lift procedure. To ensure the safest and most successful procedure, you should be in good general health and a nonsmoker. Smokers will be required to stop smoking a number of weeks prior to and after the procedure to prevent poor wound healing or nicotine-related complications. It is also important to have a healthy self-image and realistic expectations of what the procedure can do for you. BREAST LIFT BENEFITS There are a variety of potential benefits you might gain from breast lift surgery: More youthful positioning of the breast Improved projection to the breasts Repositioning of the nipple and areola Enhanced cleavage Better fit to clothing Increased self-confidence LIFT OR AUGMENTATION? It can be difficult for some women to choose between breast augmentation and a breast lift. As a general rule, if you are happy with the size of the breasts but unhappy with their position, a breast lift is probably the right choice. However, if you would like to increase the size and fullness of the breasts, augmentation using implants is usually a better choice. Some women may find they will get the best results by combining the lift and augmentation. These two procedures can be performed simultaneously in a single surgery, allowing you to see the best possible results with just one time under anesthesia and one recovery period. Dr. Mashhadian frequently performs these procedures together to provide his patients the best possible outcome in reaching their full aesthetic goals.

GIVE YOUR LASHES A MAKEOVER!

Get ready to shine this holiday season by giving your eyes the dramatic frame they deserve. Thin lashes no longer have to get in the way of your season sparkle, thanks to a prescription medication known as Latisse. This medication is available at Rodeo Surgical Art to help our Beverly Hills patients enhance the look of their eyes by thickening and darkening their lash line. WHAT IS LATISSE? Latisse is the only prescription medication approved by the FDA for the enhancement of eyelashes. When used regularly, this topical medication actually creates a thicker, darker lash line without false eyelashes, extensions or multiple coats of mascara. The medication offers gradual results over time, with full results usually seen in a matter of a few short months. PROVEN SAFETY The effective ingredient in Latisse is bimatoprost. This medication has been used for a number of years to treat glaucoma, so its safety and efficacy as a medical treatment are well proven. It was during glaucoma treatments that physicians noted the medication also increased the length and thickness of the eyelashes. After additional studies on its cosmetic benefits, a new use for bimatoprost was born. There are few risks associated with Latisse. It is not recommended for patients with current eye conditions or for those taking some medications. Dr. Mashhadian at Rodeo Surgical Art will assess your current health status and medical history to ensure this product is safe for you. It is not recommended to use the solution on any other area of the body, since unwanted hair growth can be the result. HOW TO USE LATISSE Latisse is a medication prescribed by your physician and used at home. You will receive the container of Latisse with a set of disposable applicators. Each night, after thoroughly cleansing the face and removing all makeup, you will use a new applicator to apply the solution to the upper lash line. Each eye will require its own applicator and applicators will be thrown away after use to prevent contamination or infection in the eye area. You will be advised to try to keep the medication out of your eye. If you do get some of the solution into the eye, rinse it out right away. However, it is unlikely the medication will do any actual damage to your eye, since the bimatoprost has been used for years to treat glaucoma in the eye as well. GETTING (AND KEEPING) RESULTS When Latisse is used nightly on the lash line, patients will typically begin to see noticeable results in the length and thickness of their lashes within a couple of months. It generally takes about 16 weeks of regular use to achieve full results. Once those results are achieved, you will probably be able to use the solution less frequently to maintain them. However, you will need to continue using the product indefinitely because if you stop applying Latisse completely, your lashes will likely return to their original state over time.

HOW MANY BOTOX TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

Botox is one of the most performed anti-aging treatments today. This quick, relatively painless procedure can smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, turning back your appearance by years. If you are just starting to consider the addition of Botox injections to your beauty program, there are a few basic facts about this treatment that you need to know. WRINKLES TREATED BY BOTOX Botox is an effective wrinkle reducer for certain types of wrinkles, but not for others. The formulation primarily works on “dynamic” facial lines, which are the wrinkles that form when certain facial expressions are made. Dynamic wrinkles include the following: Horizontal creases extending across the forehead Vertical lines that form between the eyebrows Crow’s feet – fine lines that develop in the outer corners of the eyes Dr. Mashhadian is also skilled in treating other types of aging symptoms using Botox injections, including: Horizontal bands around the neck Fine vertical lines appearing above the upper lip Crease that forms under the nose Chin wrinkles that produce an orange peel look For wrinkles that do not respond well to Botox treatments, Dr. Mashhadian also offers dermal filler injections that smooth away creases around the nose and mouth. N NUMBER OF BOTOX TREATMENTS NEEDED Patients often wonder how many Botox treatments they might need to get desired results, particularly since other types of anti-aging procedures like laser rejuvenation and IPL phototherapy often require multiple treatment sessions to achieve full results. The good news with Botox is that a single treatment session will yield the full results you are looking for in most cases. This means that just a few minutes of time at Rodeo Surgical Art will produce results you can flaunt for several months. Results will become apparent shortly after your treatment and will continue to improve in the days following the procedure. It should be noted that the results of Botox, while produced quickly, are only temporary in nature. If you want to maintain your positive results, you will need to schedule Botox treatments every 3-4 months. Some patients do find that the more treatments they undergo, the longer they can go between treatments without sacrificing their younger look. IS BOTOX RIGHT FOR YOU? Botox injections are performed by Dr. Mashhadian and typically take less than 15 minutes to complete. Most patients are able to return to their daily routine as soon as the procedure is over. There may be some slight swelling or bruising at the injection sites, but these side effects normally subside within a matter of hours. Pain after Botox injections is minimal and few patients need any type of pain medication after treatment. Botox is an excellent anti-aging option for patients that desire to turn back the clock but are not quite ready for plastic surgery. Some patients begin Botox treatments as early as their 30s, which can also postpone the need for surgical procedures until much later. Botox is quick, relatively easy and produces dramatic results for patients with early to moderate signs of aging.

NEW NOSE, NO KNIFE: NON-SURGICAL NOSE JOB

Are you unhappy with the shape of your nose but don’t want to invest in a surgical procedure at this time? Perhaps a non-surgical nose job, also known as non-surgical rhinoplasty, is the right choice for you. This procedure uses a combination of injectable formulations to correct minor imperfections and enhance the shape and appearance of the nose. Dr. Mashhadian offers the non-surgical nose job at Rodeo Surgical Art for his Beverly Hills patients that would like to improve their appearance without surgery. View More Patients Results BENEFITS OF NON-SURGICAL RHINOPLASTY There are a number of concerns that can be addressed with a non-surgical rhinoplasty: Dorsal hump on the bridge of the nose Crooked slope to nasal bridge A nose that is too narrow or too broad Asymmetries and irregularities in the nose shape A pointed, hooked or bulbous nose tip Dr. Mashhadian will discuss your cosmetic concerns with you to determine whether a non-surgical rhinoplasty will meet your needs best. In some cases, the non-surgical approach may not be sufficient for your needs and Dr. Mashhadian will discuss your surgical options. FILLER OPTIONS There are a number of different filler formulations that can be used to perform a non-surgical nose job. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane tend to produce the smoothest results, while Radiesse produces long-lasting benefits. Hyaluronic acid fillers can also be reversed easier if the results of your procedure are not what you expect. Dr. Mashhadian is experienced in using all of these dermal filler and will know how to select the formulations that will provide you with the best possible results. In some cases, a combination of fillers may be used to give you a superior outcome. QUICK PROCEDURE, INSTANT RESULTS A non-surgical nose job is performed in Dr. Mashhadian’s office and rarely takes more than a few minutes to complete. Prior to your injections, you will be given a hand mirror so you can monitor the procedure and have input into your own treatment. Injections are done using a very fine needle and most patients find the procedure to be quite tolerable without any type of anesthesia. After the procedure, you will be able to return to your regular activities right away. Some patients do experience mild bruising and swelling around the injection sites, particularly on the bulbous area. Dr. Mashhadian offers all of his patients an herbal supplement that minimizes those side effects. You will enjoy the results of your non-surgical nose job right away, although those results may continue to improve in the days following your procedure. The durations of your results will depend on the type of dermal filler used, but most last 6-18 months before a touch-up procedure is necessary.

CAN YOU GET YOUR PRE-BABY BODY BACK?

It is truly amazing how many big changes can occur to your body after carrying one little baby for nine months. Couple those pregnancy changes with the consequences of breastfeeding and suddenly you are looking in the mirror at a body you don’t recognize. Is there any way to get your pre-baby body back, short of logging multiple hours at the gym daily? The good news is there is a solution that will help restore your more youthful shape and appearance. It is a surgical procedure commonly referred to as a “mommy makeover.” View More Patients Results THOSE DREADED BABY CHANGES You adore the little one you brought into the world, but you don’t love the havoc wreaked on your body during those nine months. Some of the changes you might experience include: Sagging breasts Breasts that look deflated Stretched abdominal muscles Loose skin around the midsection Areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise The formation of stretch marks With so many ways that little bundle of joy can affect your body, it’s no wonder you don’t recognize yourself when you look in the mirror! Fortunately, components of a mommy makeover can address and reverse all of these pregnancy-related issues. COMPONENTS OF A MOMMY MAKEOVER A mommy makeover is actually a customizable set of surgical procedures designed to work with the specific needs of each patient. Common components of a mommy makeover might include: TUMMY TUCK Also known as abdominoplasty, this procedure tightens up lax abdominal muscles while removing loose skin and excess fat to create a leaner, smoother look to the midsection. A full tummy tuck will also remove stretch marks that formed on the lower portion of the abdomen along with the loose skin. BREAST AUGMENTATION The perfect treatment for breasts that have been deflated over the size changes of pregnancy and subsequent breastfeeding, breast augmentation adds fullness and volume to the breasts. Synthetic implants are placed into the breast tissue in a size and shape that are complementary to your other body proportions. The surgery can also address asymmetry between the breasts and perk up breasts with a minimal amount of droop. BREAST LIFT A breast lift can be performed with breast augmentation or alone to restore sagging breasts to a more youthful position on the chest. This procedure removes excess skin and may reposition the nipple and areola if necessary. A breast lift may be recommended if your breasts are sagging below the breast crease, nipples are pointing downward or your overall body shape is making you look older than you feel. LIPOSUCTION The abdomen isn’t the only place that might harbor stubborn areas of fat after pregnancy. Those extra pounds can also leave their mark around the hips, thighs and flanks. For this reason, liposuction is sometimes included with a mommy makeover to remove those isolated fat deposits and create a smoother body contour. Liposuction is also frequently used during the tummy tuck to remove excess fat cells from the midsection and enhance the results of that procedure.
