Although many women associate breast implants with augmentation, implants are also used to help correct breast asymmetry, and they play a critical role in breast reconstructive surgery. At Rodeo Surgical Art in Beverly Hills, we are proud to offer our patients a variety of implant options, including the popular “gummy bear” implant.
Breast implants are available in silicone and saline varieties. Both types have an exterior shell surface that’s made of silicone, but they differ in how they are filled. Saline implants are inserted into the breast empty, and once in place, they are filled with a sterile salt water solution. Silicone implants, on the other hand, are pre-filled with a silicone gel before being placed in the breast.
Silicone implants are generally seen as more lifelike. There are certain age restrictions as well. You need to be over the age of 18 in order to consider saline implants for breast augmentation, while those interested in silicone implants must be over the age of 22.
