The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery certifies surgeons exclusively in cosmetic surgery. In order to achieve board certification, the doctor must:
- Complete residency training and board certification in a surgical specialty, such as general surgery or oral surgery.
- Complete a fellowship in cosmetic surgery or perform more than 1,000 documented cosmetic surgery procedures.
- Perform at least 100 procedures after completing the fellowship.
- Pass a two-day written and oral exam.
